Bereavement Doulas generally provide support for families experiencing birth that is likely to coincide with loss. That could include stillbirth, neonatal demise, adoption and even surrogacy .
Antepartum Doulas provide support for women with difficult pregnancies. These mothers are considered High-Risk and have a greater need to lower levels of stress and anxiety. These doulas may or may not actually attend the labor. Their primary role is to provide comfort and de-stress during pregnancy to help support a healthy birth.
The Consulting or Coaching Doula provides families with the resources to make informed decisions about birth and postpartum without actually attending the birth. This doula is the marriage of a health or life coach with a birth guru.
